Frequently asked questions
Is the tool free?+
Yes. Images can be labeled free of charge and then downloaded directly.
Do I need to create an account?+
No. Image editing does not require registration or sign-in.
Are my images uploaded?+
No, provided the application is implemented fully locally as intended. Images are processed directly in the browser and are not sent to the web server.
Which image formats are supported?+
JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP are supported.
Can I change the position myself?+
Yes. The label can be moved using preset positions or directly in the image preview. A safe minimum distance from the image edge is maintained.
Can I change the opacity?+
Yes. Text and icons can be made more transparent or more visible.
What is the difference between AI GENERATED and AI MODIFIED?+
AI GENERATED is intended for content created entirely or predominantly with AI. AI MODIFIED is suitable for existing content that has been altered using artificial intelligence.
Does the label guarantee full legal compliance?+
The tool helps visibly label AI-generated or AI-modified content. It does not replace a legal assessment of an individual case. The user is responsible for choosing and correctly applying the label.
Do I have to label every AI-generated image?+
No. Not every AI-generated image is automatically subject to a legal labeling requirement. Relevant factors may include the content, its use, and whether the image could be perceived as real or truthful. Voluntary labeling can nevertheless increase transparency for viewers.
When do the EU AI Act's AI labeling requirements apply?+
The transparency obligations for certain AI-generated and AI-manipulated content generally apply under the EU AI Act from 2 August 2026. Whether a specific piece of content must be labeled depends on the individual use case.
Can I label deepfake images with the tool?+
Yes. The tool can add a visible label directly to an image. Whether that label meets all legal requirements in a specific case must be assessed individually.
Where should the label be placed in the image?+
The label should be clearly visible and have sufficient contrast with the background. It should not be covered by text, controls, or other overlays. The tool lets you choose and adjust a position that suits each image.
How large does an AI label need to be?+
A fixed pixel size is not suitable for every image. The important point is that the label remains clearly recognizable and readable at its usual display size. A sufficiently large label should therefore be used for small thumbnails.
